2. Water Taxi from Coral Bay

Staying on St. John? Local water taxis, such as Flyaway Charters and Salt Deck, can transport you directly from the Coral Bay dock to Lime Out for lunch. Super easy if you’re on the east end of St. John, or if charter boats are outside of the budget.

  • Flyaway Charters operates a small vessel solely dedicated to bringing guests to Lime Out from Coral Bay.
  • Similarly, Salty Daze Charters offers the Salt + Lime Express, departing from Coral Bay at regular intervals.

3. Book a Private Boat Charter (Best Experience by Far)

We’ll admit it — we’re biased here. But we genuinely think the best way to experience Lime Out is by private boat.

Instead of dealing with ferry schedules, crowded shuttles, or trying to piece the day together yourself, you can pull right up to the taco boat, grab lunch, float in the turquoise water, and move at your own pace.

The best part? Lime Out becomes just one stop during a full day exploring St. John.

Most private charters combine Lime Out with:

  • snorkeling spots around St. John
  • hidden beaches
  • floating bars
  • sea turtle encounters
  • quieter coves away from the crowds

A boat day turns Lime Out from a quick lunch stop into a full Virgin Islands experience.

⚓ Bonus Time Charters & Lime Out

Yes — Lime Out is one of our most popular stops, and we offer both half-day and full-day USVI charters from St. Thomas or St. John.

That said, we usually recommend the full-day option if your schedule allows.

Why?

Because once you’re out there, nobody wants to rush back. A full day gives you time to:

  • relax at Lime Out
  • snorkel multiple spots
  • explore beaches around St. John
  • and actually settle into island time a little bit

If you’re already making a day on the water part of your vacation, you might as well do it right.

Pro Tips for Visiting Lime Out

  1. Bring a credit card: It’s floating, so no cash machines around!
  2. Know the best time to go: days and time of year may vary, but large group charters tend to arrive at 11 AM and stay for just over an hour. Between noon and 2 PM, you’ll see a wave of private boat charters. It seems the later in the day, the less busy it is!
  3. Wear your suit & sunscreen: There’s not much shade while sitting on the water at Lime Out. Wear a bathing suit to swim from your boat to the floating bar, and apply plenty of sunscreen to protect yourself from sunburn.

🏝️ FAQ: Visiting Lime Out, St. john

Lime Out is only accessible by water. You can get there by private boat charter, water taxi from Coral Bay, or large group tours from St. Thomas or Cruz Bay.

Nope! Lime Out is a floating taco bar anchored offshore in Coral Bay, so there’s no road or dock access by car.

A stop at Lime Out does not require a reservation — it’s first come, first served.

Lime Out accepts major credit cards. And don’t worry! It’s no problem if you’re credit card gets wet – it’ll still work!

There isn’t one on the floating bar itself. Most boat charters (especially the large ones) will have a head (marine bathroom) onboard, or you can use facilities back at Coral Bay before/after your visit (if you arrive by water taxi/ferry).

You cannot swim from shore, paddleboard, or kayak to Lime Out on St. John. You must arrive by boat due to safety concerns!

🌮 Final Thoughts on Visiting Lime Out

No matter how you get there, Lime Out is one of those spots that lives up to the hype. Floating tacos, turquoise water, cold drinks, and snorkeling in Coral Bay — it’s hard to have a bad day here.

That said… we’ll admit our bias. We think Lime Out is best experienced as part of a bigger day exploring St. John by boat.

Instead of simply grabbing tacos and leaving, you can combine Lime Out with:

  • snorkeling stops
  • hidden beaches
  • floating bars
  • sea turtle encounters
  • sunset cruising back toward St. Thomas or Cruz Bay

Lime Out is amazing. But Lime Out plus a full day on the water? That’s the kind of vacation day people remember forever.
